"Dear Randy,
Wow! Great reading! I enjoyed reading the whole book. I read it the first time and cried most of the way threw it, so I read it the second time and I was amazed at how honest and real that the youth of this generation can be. The students at MALC are truly a very special group of young men and women.
This book is a must read for any adult working with the youth in America and around the World. I wish I had - had this book to read when my own children were in Middle School. Maybe then as a parent I would have been more understanding of their feeling and emotions of the 12 - 14 year olds.
The issues that our teens face every day are real - and in my openion Mr. King and Dr. Christensen have done us all a real service by writing this book and thank you to each young man and women who wrote their essays. This book is or should be a must read for anyone working with our 12 - 18 year olds, as a parent, teacher, councelor/advisor, principal.
Thank You,

I had a hard life and experienced a lot of the same things these children talk about in their essays. I guess you could call me a "Mother Teresa" type now. Because all the kids come to me and I have a son who has friends facing the same problems these kids face. I have always tried to maintain "an open door" policy when it comes to our youth. The stories I hear from Tyler make me realize more and more what a good parent I am. I do not received a lot of encouragement in this area. I guess you could say that I have dedicated my life to raising my son (and His closest friends). I think it is vital that we are there for our youth to encourage, guide them, mentor to them, etc. I have not started sharing the stories with Tyler or any of his friends yet but that is my next step. I wanted to gain insight from my reading the stories to better equip me to be able to discuss these issues with them. I will let you know more as I come across comments etc. But overall I think that this is a great book (tool) that our society needs to help us parents wake up and get you heads out of the sand guys. This is reality."
